SCRIBBLINGS OF A MEDIC TURNS 1!

Has it been a year already? Major birthday vibes! I cannot believe the number of amazing people I have met over the last year because of this blog. I have loved connecting with both medics and non-medics from all over the world via Instagram, WordPress and email.

When I started the blog a year ago, all I wanted was to create a platform for my fellow medics, especially the Sri Lankan foreign graduates, to learn more about the healthcare system in Sri Lanka. It’s a daunting task to work in a different country with a “not so straightforward” healthcare system. Whatever I was sure about when it comes to medical examinations and careers, I wanted to share. Initially, I didn’t think anybody would even come across my blog page, but the response has been insane and I really hope that it has been able to help even a couple of students.

As the blog has grown, so have my responsibilities – I am no longer an intern, I now am a medical officer (moved up two ranks).  I am also currently half-way through studying for my PGCertificate in Medical Education and am focusing on my post-graduate examinations to specialize. It feels like my world has done a complete 180° turn, but as scary as this new chapter is, it also has given me a lot of motivation and drive. Something that has been missing in the last couple of months.

I have big big plans for this blog going forward. To maintain the quality content of the blog, the posts will now be uploaded once every two weeks as opposed to being weekly. They will still contain a mixture of medicine, travelling and little bits of everything! Don’t worry, my Instagram will still have its’ usual uploads and you will see my face every now and then on my insta-story (don’t know how many of you are going to be liking that though)! Look out also for a change in the blog aesthetic – I mean its’ been a year already and all the content was made by little ol’ me so it is definitely time for a professional to step in and change it up a bit.

Anyway, I just wanted to say a big thank you to YOU, my scribblers! Thank you for your constant support on both the WordPress blog and Instagram! You have helped elevate my passion for medical education and pushed me to pursue specialization. To say a little thank you, I’m giving away a couple of items so please check out my Instagram post for more details on how to enter and win.

I love hearing from you all and hope to do more in the future for the medical community here in Sri Lanka.

Lots of love,

Dr RTB.
