Dr. Rashmira Balasuriya [MBBS, BSc (Hons), PGCert (MedEd)] is a medical doctor with bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and a medical degree from Kings College London and Newcastle University United Kingdom, respectively. Navigating the healthcare system in Sri Lanka is no easy task and this website was created to help guide other foreign medical graduates and junior doctors. After sitting for the ERPM (Examination to Register to Practise Medicine) examinations in 2016, she completed her internship and post-internship training at DGH Embilipitiya working in surgical, paediatric and neonatology units. Due to her interest in Medical Education, she pursued a Post-Graduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee via long distance learning.
On leaving the government sector, she continue to work as a doctor in medical and surgical wards in the private healthcare sector in Sri Lanka. Influenced by her time working at the Family Planning Association Sri Lanka as a medical student and by conducting research in the field of Women’s health, she joined the Arka Initiative to improve sexual and reproductive health awareness in Sri Lanka. She currently serves as Head of Mentors at the Arka Initiative. Pursuing her dream to be a family practitioner and to have her own clinic, she is also currently doing her post-graduate training in Family Medicine. She continues to also educate the public via her social media page on instagram, demistifying life as a doctor in Sri Lanka and also combatting medical misinformation!
